The Art Of Abstract
This three-day workshop is designed for the New and or Experienced Abstract Artist working with acrylic painting materials. Open to those who are familiar with acrylics and have a basic understanding of color or want to experiment with new ways of using these or those who are stuck in a slump. Leslie will start with a demonstration of the many approaches she uses to create an abstract painting. There will be guided exercises to help you liberate your individual style and explore where your journey will take you in the art of abstract. There will be no expectations, negative voices, dismissive criticism. This will be all about fun. We will touch on the color wheel and color mixing to assure everyone has the same basic understanding of these concepts. We will explore various washes and landing points building and subtracting. We will discuss the many different styles of composition including value and shape.
You will learn to be generous with yourself. Get out of your comfort zone, let loose your creativity, get rid of that inner critic that has you stuck. So that by the final phase, you will be able to put the finishing touches on your own beautiful abstract painting,
Leslie Newman is a self-taught abstract artist living in Marietta, Georgia. She grew up in Washington, D.C where from an early age she spent her weekends exploring the many art galleries the city has to offer. Starting to draw and paint as a very young girl, she encountered an art teacher who changed her life by gently guiding her toward her life's passion – painting. Beginning in watercolor, Leslie has gravitated to abstract because she loves the freedom that it gives her. Leslie’s love of teaching has evolved out of the many requests from various artists living in the Atlanta area and from across the United States.
She is currently the Owner and Workshop Coordinator at Leslie Newman’s Art Circle

Painting The Abstracted Floral with Lynn Johnson
Lynn Johnson’s painting style is one of simplifying and abstracting her subject through expressive mark making, a limited palette and bold brushstrokes. Her work has been described as calming, serene and feminine.
This three-day oil painting workshop is designed for those artists who are interested in loosening up and painting florals with less definition and more intuition. The workshop will cover concepts of shape, value, line, light and shadow, texture and mark making and include artist demos and informal critiques.
This class is for new/intermediate artists using oil paints and mediums.
Lynn Johnson is a full time painter living in Atlanta. Her work is a combination of subjective and abstract narratives, floral in nature, ever pursuing the simplification and purity of her subject.
I strive to maintain a balance between layered, subtle forms and expressive mark making while conveying a lighthearted, imperfect and messy at times approach to my subject. It’s a layering process, a dialogue, addition and subtraction. My intent is to offer the viewer perhaps an unexpected or unusual twist to a more traditional floral painting, one that reveals it’s imperfections and authenticity.
Lynn Johnson’s work has been exhibited in public and private collections around the United States. She received her BFA from Iowa State University College of Art. Locally, her work can be viewed at Anne Irwin Fine Art, Erika Reade Ltd. and Gramercy Home.
